OPIOID MONITORING INITIATIVE

The Arizona HIDTA Opioid Monitoring Initiative (OMI) was launched as a joint effort with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) to help combat the opioid overdose epidemic.

In Arizona, opioid abuse, addiction, and death is a public health crisis.  The number of people dying from heroin overdoses alone increased more than 600% over the last ten years.

The OMI provides assistance in identifying, predicting, and reducing the number of opioid-related fatalities and overdoses by sharing current data/trends with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and communities to promote public safety, education, and increase awareness.
